| Everybody likes to hear a story! And the Bible is full of stories, some famous and others less well-known. Telling a story from the biblical text aloud brings the passage to life. Many Bible storytellers narrate a scripture passage directly from the text, using a Bible version designed for easy reading. Could you tell a story? Bible Storytellers in local BibleNets tell Bible stories to groups in a variety of settings, like banquets, meetings, conventions, and congregational gatherings. With the proper permission and permits, you may be able to tell stories to the public, in parks and malls, or in conjunction with a holiday festival or children's fair. Your audience could be children, youth, adults, or older adults. Storytellers are particularly in demand in nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and treatment centers. The Network of Biblical Storytellers (online at www.nobs.org) has resources, national conferences, and regional trainings for Christian storytellers. Local NOBS guilds often sponsor storytelling events (''Tell-Arounds'') during special times of the year. Jewish storytellers often retell stories from the Bible together with those from other sources. Resources include a new multi-volume series of Biblical commentaries published by Abingdon Press, The Storyteller's Companion to the Bible (ed. by Michael E. Williams). Look for this in print or CD-ROM in your congregation's library, or in the library of a local seminary or religious college. | |||||
